Picture of Henry at the vet office

You know how you wake up some mornings and think everything is fine, nothing is wrong, all is well? Yay! You're thinking I'm going to get up, do some work, call some people, maybe get lunch somewhere fun. Then your dog emerges from under the bed and he's shaking his head, leaning to the left and can't lift his head up straight because OUCH MY EAR MOM! SERIOUSLY! MOM! MY EAR! So you lift up his ear and it's fire-breathing chili pepper red and kind of smells funny. Suddenly the easy TGIF kinda day unfolds into trips to and from the vet, worrying about the dog and loosing 200 bucks before you've even had a cup of coffee.

In regard to my Jazzercise post here, Lisa commented:

I'm envisioning a sparkly headband. Please post pics ASAP.

Laundry League - folded and put away

This was my laundry at 10 o'clock last night. I had to stop and put it away, but there were still two loads to go. Sadly, I never got a comprehensive, all-inclusive picture.

In a few weeks time, we will host a rematch. And this time, Sue's going down!

Laundry League

Tuesday, March 25, 2008

None too good at domestic chores my friend Sue and I were lamenting the piles of laundry taking over our respective bedrooms. We decided the only way to motivate ourselves was to get it out in the open and host a showdown. Over on her blog Sue covered the introductions:

Who's laundry pile is larger - the DINK or the WMOO?

In my finest boxing emcee voice...

"In this corner at 6'2" tall...she's a lean mean design machine. Her favorite reasons for avoiding the laundry are: gardening, stalking people on social networking websites, and fixing tea for her husband!"

"In the opposite corner at 5' 2 1/4"...she's the school secretary and wiper of butts. Her favorite reasons for avoiding the laundry are: reading Elmo books, watching Elmo television, and changing poopie diapers."

LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!

Here is Sue's pile:

So...

I joined Jazzercise (yes, you read that right, Jazzercise) as part of my "Getting Fit" campaign.

My friend told me I looked like a marionette with my long arms and legs flailing aimlessly around the room.

I am scared to think what the other fifty women thought.

Calla lily

I had never had success with calla lilies until recently. I always managed to make them die. Quickly. Apparently, the key to success is ignorance. Over the fence, my neighbor gave me root cuttings one afternoon. The only empty pot I had didn't have any drainage holes but I filled it with soil, threw in the cuttings and hoped for the best. Then I left on holiday for two weeks. When I returned I was stunned the plant was still alive and better yet? Growing! Then January and February were filled with rain which constantly made my drain-less pot overflow and sit with lots of water. I would pour off the excess water and shake my head certain the lilies would rot. The plant didn't rot, but thrived. Come spring, I have been rewarded with bloom after bloom and am amazed with its beauty.
